Our BEGINNINGS AND THE NEXT CHAPTER

Grace Presbyterian Church - the Next Chapter

Grace Presbyterian Church, a new congregation, forged by merger of Covenant Presbyterian Church (CPC) and University Presbyterian Church (UPC), was chartered January 8, 2017 when Rev. Jay Wilkins, Transitional Presbyter for the Presbytery of Sheppards and Lapsley, presented the Grace Presbyterian Charter during 11:00 worship and officially pronounced us a congregation.  Via a post-worship congregational meeting was Rev. Cathy Caldwell Hoop was approved as the first minister of Grace Presbyterian Church.

January 8, 2023 Grace Presbyterian Church officially entered an interim period as Rev. Hoop moved to Holland, Michigan to accept the call as Senior Minister of First Presbyterian Church.

What is next for Grace?

January 29, 2023, the Commission on Ministry of our Sheppards and Lapsley Presbytery appointed a liaison, Charles Nash, a member of Brown Memorial, to assist us with an orderly transition in calling a new pastor.  Two committees were formed: Temporary Pastor Nominating and Pastor Nominating.  By April 2023 the Temporary Pastor Nominating Committee has drafted and published a job description for a temporary pastor. The Pastor Nominating Committee began the work of developing a description of who we are as a church and what we seek in a PC(USA) pastor.  The process involves many steps and will be completed "decently and in order."  Updates to both searches will be provided on a regular basis.

Even as we pray for and anticipate a new minister, our church's work and ministry continues.  We are actively engaged in Worship, Mission Peace and Justic, Christian Formation, and Congregational Care.
